History

brief history of the Shell Factory. It all started when a young couple moved to
Florida in 1939 and began selling seashells and shell crafts from their porch in
Bonita Springs. The business eventually grew into a large souvenir shop. In
1952, the shop by destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt by the owners further up on
Tamiami Trail (route 41) and was destroyed again by Hurricane Donna in 1960. The
owners kept persisting and rebuilt their business. Unfortunately another fire in
1980 destroyed their shop once again! As the years went by, the shop changed
owners, expanded through the intervening years, and fell during the hard times.
Finally in 1997, Tom Cronin a local businessman decided to turnaround the 60
year old store with a multimillion dollar renovation. Today the Shell Factory
has fulfilled its destiny by becoming a true shopping destination.
