In December 1996, this new visitor center was opened and dedicated to honor

interpretive trails.
Flamingo Visitor Center
This visitor center is open from November through April and offers natural

canoe to explore Chokoloskee Bay and the Turner River. For the more adventurous,
the 99 mile (159 km) Wilderness Waterway, which is accessible by canoe, kayak,
or small motorboat, winds through the mangrove islands all the way to Flamingo.
